Ahm aboot tae become a grandfather and, of course and as you would expect, the boat is being kitted out for the wee wain eg forecabin with thomas tank engine wall paper mixed with beatrix potter rabbits etc (uni-sex, youse ken), nappy changing facility where the chart table was, new fridge and storage for the baby carriage (nane orra yon maclren buggy stuff - nooadays its self tacking with spinnaker sun shade, macpherson strut independent suspension and all wheel drive anda second mortgage tae buy the bleeding thing) ..

hooever .. in the event that the event should occur on board and after consultation with ma medical expert at the PoW pub recently, we stumbled across a most useful device to encourage birth at the crucial moment and ah can show youse a picture of the device. The bairn in the pic is a wee bit heavier than the device might be called upon to perform but as you can see, no harm came ....

From memory, medical term for a birth encouraged by a suction device is a 'ventouse birth' see web page for the gory details.

Also from my dodgy memory, the french for a sink plunger rather similar to the one illustrated is a 'ventouse'.

Perhaps you knew that all along, and I will retire to corner...
