New Big ferries - Lymington to Yarmouth - LOOK OUT!

From Creeks & Harbours of the Solent, 1933, K. Adlard Coles

"The station is near the Town Quay, but there is a second station on the east side of the river on the pier alongside which the Isle of Wight steamers bring up. These run to Yarmouth at frequent intervals in the summer months, but the service is not so good in the winter, when no boats cross on SUndays. Cars are taken over to the Island on a ferry towed by a tug."

Whilst I don't condone WL heavyhandedness over their introduction, I have some sympathies with their plight.

Getting anything new done in Lym is a nightmare with more special interest groups than you can shake a stick at. Apparently there was a similar row when the paddlesteamers were replaced with the ferries that are now, themselves, being replaced.

I gather that English Nature - or what ever new name they call them selves now, is the main cause of the delays. I understand that they have been faffing around for about 11 years on what to do with the salt marshes, and now they agree they need to back fill them from dredgings - which was what was suggested some 10 years ago.

I would imagine that Whitelink just gave up waiting for the efing idiots that make up English Nature, - so perhaps born out of desparation perhaps????
