Sealed, Gel and AGM are good options in cold water. Nearly all fail in the tropics, I guess they rely on the H2 and O2 recombining to replace the water. The chandlers in places like Panama, Tahiti and NZ are kept busy replacing with batteries you can top up. I have some "low-maintenance" made specifically for solar power electricity in a tropical environment and they seem to work, I guess they not only have massive plates but also have plenty of room for spare electrolyte and thanks for reminder about needing to top up, it is winter here, batteries charged at 13.6v but I guess a bit of distilled is now overdue.
