I have been a long time fan of Azimut we have a very good dealer here in NZ.I bought a Magellano 43 from them 3 years ago and have really loved it but always wanted a bigger boat in the 60ft range but was out of my price bracket but looked at the 53 fly out of curiosity and was super impressed with everything so much so I bought one should be here in late December can't wait will let you guys know what its like when it arrives

Yes please put some pics and reports up on this forum about the new boat. How come you didnt go to a Magellano 53?

+1.
If given a choice between Cummins on shafts and VP on IPS, I wouldn't have even started looking at any other differences.
But each to their own, of course.
Powerplant aside, the new 53 fly does look stunning.

I wanted more seating in the saloon the 53 Mag was just to similar to the 43 with the U shaped seating also the higher speed was a plus and the master cabin helped

Tend to agree with you. IMHO the Mag 53 is a bit of a flawed design with too much cockpit area and too little saloon area. In that respect I wonder whether the designers thought they aping the characteristics of the Fleming 55 which suffers the same mismatch yet has been hugely successful? And yes I agree that the master cabin on the Mag 53 is a bit deficient in that it isnt full beam and doesnt have a wholly flat floor around the bed. Again IMHO the Mag 53 is well overdue a redesign seeing as its about 10 yrs old now

Another thing I'm wondering about is why Azimut hasnt launched a Magellano 58 to compete with the Absolute Navetta 58 and Sirena 58. Could it be that given the link between Sirena and Azimut, there is a commercial agreement between the two companies which obliges Azimut not to launch directly competing models?

Can you say what link there is between Azimut and Sirena, same shareholders?

would indeed be interesting to see the comparison between the Magellano and the 53 fly in terms of seekeeping and practical use.

IIRC, Sirena contracted with Azimut-Benetti to build the smaller Magellanos back when the Magellano line was conceived and they’ve been doing so ever since. Not aware of any ownership in A-B by Turkish interests, not sure if A-B has a stake in Sirena.

I didnt say the two companies have the same shareholders! I just said they had a commercial agreement

Sirena Marine - Rail and Automotive Systems

The yard’s on-going collaboration with Azimut-Benetti now also encompasses the building of Magellano 43 at its recently-extended 155, 000 square metre facility

I guess you already know that the Magellano hulls are described as a hybrid hull, effectively a semi displacement hull with a skeg whereas the new AZ53 will be a form of planing hull. How that translates to seakeeping I dont know but I guess the Magellano hull will be softer riding in a head sea. I also believe that Azimut certify their Magellano models as EU Cat A whereas I think their planing hulls will be Cat B

Thanks for clarifying. I was not aware of the agreement between the companies.

seakeeping, speed, consumption etc would be a very interesting comparison. Length and displacement are the same for both but the new 53 fly is 25 cm beamier. Not sure if Azimut made any changes in their construction methods in the last 10 years. If I am not mistaken they did resin infusion already on the Mag 53.
On paper the Magellano could have a bit more volume with the vertical bow, but I agree with the too large cockpit vs salon, judging from pics. They could have made more of the flybridge layout too.
