Last time I opened the antifouling we stuck a large screwdriver under the lid and levered the lid off; total time a few seconds. The latest tins came with a blue hard plastic sealing ring with a slot to insert a screwdriver and lever it off. All efforts to lever off this infernal plastic ring were to no avail and a hacksaw was finally brought to cut through the plastic.....success ! Not so simple, step two requires removal of the actual lid which is unlike the lids of old we have used in the past. There is no way to insert a screwdriver that will allow enough leverage to spring the lid loose fron the tin ! Opening was finally achieved with a hammer and chisel that left the tin somewhat worse for wear. Is it just advancing old age and failing strength on my part or do others find these new fangled tins a pain in the a*se ? The only conclusion when pondering this issue with the crew was that it's a cunning ploy to stop us saving any left over antifouling as the tin and lid are always damaged byond further use by opening.Grrrrrrrrrr

I had similar experience to you. The blue plastic came off with a screwdriver ok and after a lot of time footling about with a very large screwdriver I managed to ease out the tin rim enough to pull up the lid with pliers. I managed to get the lid back on OK once but not a second time (after opening the tin to paint the bit under the keel whilst she was on the hoist).
I suspect the manufacturers thought the new tin would seal better but it is not a practical design for the users needs.
I will not buy another tin of Tiger with this design of lid - its carp
