Ate there last week. Food was good but but no better than one or two very good pubs around here. Had almost no veg or spuds, on way out saw plates of both being served with same meals as we had.

Arrived at time that was booked, large party of 12+ only to be told table not ready for another 15 minuted or more, service was slow and had a proper argument with the waitress who insisted that I'd ordered a sweet! Stupid woman then walked away rather than serve more wine.

Not impressed. Upstairs was pretty scruffy, toilet also scruffy and not particularly clean but not surprising as there was only 1!

All in all very disappointing for an expensive so called up market restaurant. Glad I wasn't paying!

Sorry to hear that. As you know, I went there a few weeks ago and thought it was good, so apologies if I've misled you - though it sounds as if some of your problems were down to the people waiting on your table.

I shudder to think what the bill was, for 12 people

No not misled at all, decision to go there was made by our generous hosts. Suspect with all the wine (which was excellent) and liquers the bill must have been over a grand.

Maybe out of regatta week things would have been different.

Cant understand. We usually have fish and chips on the front, else make sumate our selves. Never understood posh restaurants . They always make me feal really sick.

I know. It's just me. But the minute I see that massive platefull, I just want to vomit.

Sorry to hear it. We had an excellent lunch at the restaurant above the National Trust shop by the small boat dock & I'd be happy to go there again.

[/ QUOTE ]I worked for a Golders Green self made muli millionaire for a number of years, we travelled together a lot and dined in many fine restaurants all over the world. The first thing he did on entering a restaurant was to visit the toilets, if they were not clean we would walk out. He said that if the toilets were dirty the kitchen would be worse.
Most times we had made a booking and this caused some fine rows with the management when we left, he just used to give them his card and say sue me. As far as I know they never did.

One of my pet hates is a dirty toilet, with no paper in the heads and no lock on the door, in restaurants or bars, what do they think we are.

Re: Update

New management. No idea

Still good - didn't rate it before

Expensive - Will cost more than a tank of diesel! Probably more than several tanks of liquid gold.

Re: Update

Think it's been brought by someone who has employed John Burton-Race as the Head Chef, so he's strictly on wages.

Haven't been since my original visit so I don't know what it's like now - I can only afford it when the Wedding Anniversary year is a multiple of 25 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
