Hi,

In the process of sorting out the boat for the new season and looking to upgrade my anchor.

22ft Long Keel boat based out of Cardiff.

Currently using a 6kg D-Type cheap as chips anchor but looking to upgrade to something more substantial given tidal strengths in the Bristol Channel and something that will allow me to go and anchor off Lundy island.

Was thinking 10kg Lewmar Delta or Fortress Guardian 16kg both come in at about £100 which is my maximum budget.

The 6kg D-type will then be demoted to a Kedge.

Cheers

I use a 10 kg genuine Delta ( a boat jumble pick up, as new ) Its all I have ever used in the Bristol Channel over ten years. Its on 10m 8mm chain and 70m 14mm plait - boat 22' Invader Yacht - about 2 ton laden.
( based River Axe - Weston )
Never dragged yet. That includes quite a few overnight in 5-6 conditions - and most normal Channel anchorages + Milford area etc.
Ok - all on mud or sand. Not only has it never dragged - its always released fine as well.
I am the windlass !
Original anchor to the boat was a genuine CQR - somewhat lighter than that. I keep that as a kedge/spare. Thats just warp 60m + the original 25m 1/4 chain if needed.

Never been out to Lundy - its on the list for this season ( along with Ireland ! - hmm - maybe Isle of Man ? )

i bought a Kobra 2 anchor, a bit cheaper than others for similar weight and I really like it, digs in really quickly and has held in lots of conditions occasionally on very short scopes in tight spots as well, releases really easy and fits our bow shape very nicely as well
