New alternator

Can anyone recommend a replacement alternator for my valeo 2541663 alternator? Its fitted to a Volvo md22. I'd happily get exactly the same, bit for some reason I can't find a uk company who has this model?!!

Replacement alternator

Just doing the same thing, replaced with this, but cannot comment on how good as having to send back for repair as u/s from fitting. Maybe not a good reccomendation. But is a size for size replacement

The other essential check is that its regulator is the same 'sensing' - either positive or negative. Get it wrong and the new device will be damaged when you connect it up.

Think you will find that these alternators have built-in regulators ?, so +/- will not apply

Worth talking to the starter and alternator company. They were very helpful when I was stuck in Plymouth. Good to deal with and knes their stuff.

They do list some of the stock on Ebay and if you follow their link there the feedback is excellent. They have a lot more stock not listed and I would phone them.

We might ask the OP why he needs a new alternator. I suspect our modern society is geared to replace rather than fix however alternators are very robust and usually quite reliable. It should be easy to get an auto electrician typer workshop to look at it and repair as necessary. consider.... olewill

It over heated and has now failed to work. I don't know the actual fault, ive been told it's probably the diodes. If spares are easy to get hold of then it may be worth a fix. At the end of the day, there can't be much else wrong with it. Only trouble is there is no alternator guy in Gibraltar, I am now back in the uk minus the broken alternator, however I do have the part number.

Any ideas??

I presume that your alternator is the same as that fitted on the Perkins Prima which is 70 Amps. I replaced mine last year with a new Prestolite 90 Amps which I obtained from Phoenix Marine Electrics (with one year guarantee) The company is based in Daventry Northamptonshire. Tel 07900265426. I found the service provided very good and the alternator fitted the engine without any problem at all. Phenix provided also drawings and fitting instructions
