I read the item in this months YM about the changes to the Admiralty chart colours and was a bit bemused to see that changing the colours for shallow depths in the Leisure Folios is a major issue. The current light blue shading of depths from 5m-2m (I think) is being made the same as the 2m-0m with the light blue being used for 10m-5m now. Whilst the shading provides a quick visual reference, I ignore it and use the soundings and contours because when I'm navigating in waters under 10m, I'm extremely careful. This I do appreciate could be because the west coast of Scotland is deep and rocky and not shallow and muddy but I do think to complain about this standardisation of depth colours is a bit simplistic.
As to the changes with the lights, I'll need to wait and see how it appears on the charts but again I can see the reasons behind their arguments.
