RM teasing the launch of an RM980 with an ad in December Voiles et Voiliers. Which includes this QR code link (English Language). Strap line "Small is Beautiful."

No renders of the interior yet. But I thought that they'd done a good job with the RM1080, which I was aboard over the summer.

Sounds as if the first finished RM980 will be revealed at Grand Pavois 2026.

Our friends had a red Sadler 32 with a black mast. Easy to confuse.
Besides the colour scheme, they also have in common that both come with a choice of fin or bilge keels. As well as both taking inspiration from the racing designs of their day. “Many a true word…..” In spirit, if not visually.

Not really going after the same market, at a guess the RM will be over a tonne heavier and cost £100k more on the water.
What I suspected ... still ... two fun boats that will set new benchmarks for their sectors. What we would have given for a First 30 back in the 70s/80s, imagine double digit speeds on a family cruiser/racer - a massive reduction in passage times.

The prices on the extras list! You could source much of that after delivery for a third of the cost.

If I were ever to buy a halfmaran, these things should be my kind of boat. But a new tri isn’t that much of a stretch more. Admittedly they don’t have cavernous interiors. But then, I have a house already. To pay all that for a boat that goes quite fast in ideal conditions, but barely more than any AWB mostly is not logical. Unless you want it as a IRC racer of course. We are spurned like a rabid dog by most regattas, though there is an active multi race circuit in the solent.

I love that whichever translation machine converted it into English has translated déplacement as shift 😂

Reminds of a French mate of mine who posted a photo of his Jag entitled « J’aime ma caisse » (i love my car). Facebook translated this as “I love my cash register”.

The beam (or lack of it) is interesting. My old 31.7 was 3.23 wide.

On the subject of pricing Sailing Today were listing £350k ex vat ex factory for the First 36SE. Crikey

Edit - whatever happened to the previous First 30 from around 2010 as I don’t recall ever seeing one since looking around the pink wrapped one at Excel London?
