Just had 6 days in Lake Solent sailing one of 6 Victoria 34s on the annual University Royal Naval Units 'exped' and didn't have to put foulies on at all!!
Each boat had a skipper who was at least a dazed kipper and a comp crew as mate plus 3 or 4 sailing novices. As all the students are URNU they do have a clue about navigation, tides and ROR etc which helps, but it is such fun introducing these kids to the joy of sailing. 1 of my total novices was a natural helm - couldn't fault him taking the boat to windward - a joy to watch.
Great time was had by all but everytime I sail in the Solent I remember why the East Coast is so special!
