Us forumites have had some real goes at brokers over the years, so here's the flip side. And its nice to recommend someone who is a fair dealer.

Having sold CI through NYB in Pwllheli, I have to say they do play fair. I did 3 viewings, one with a sea trial and the deal was done on the last viewing. Diane at the NYB, for one reason or another, hadn't been able to do the viewings, apologising each time. So after the sale was closed I decided to call her up and re-negotiate the price down from 7% which is what they wanted, to something lower - maybe 3 or 4%.

I hadn't really got to the conversation on the phone with her, when she apologised for not being able to do the viewings, and as such NYB hadn't really done the job it set out to do. And so without prompting, she offered for me to pay only the "advertisers" fee of £115 incl VAT.

Good on her, and as such I am happy to recommend Diane at NYB Pwllheli.

funny thing is, with a different seller this could have been another useless broker rant ..

"selling my boat thru NYB and 3 times people have wanted to see it and they don't have anyone to show them round, don't they realise that buyers want to see boats before they buy them, terrible service etc ....."

in 2002 NYB told me the best I could get for my; 1997, Chris Craft, Crowne 26, would be a lethargic, lack luster about £22,000. Nationwide, from Chesterfield said they could sell it for £28,000, whats more, they could achieve this quickly, they had enthusiasm and wanted to secure me as a customer. They said they would collect the boat, take it back to their yard and valet it. In the end they got the boat back to Chesterfield, put it up for sale at £29,800 and got £28,500 for my boat.

Quite agree with Nick H, i find very little positive in O P, sounds like very poor service indeed, i would not pay them anything at all,

Two issues here for Me.
Yep, NWYB didn,t 'do' anything.
However they did spend some dosh advertising it seems.
So they laid out a few bob.

Some Brokers would have argued the point and made some fuss about commision etc.
So fair play there.
Done and dusted , plus due to Dave Snelsons amazing sales techniques it seems!
Although I believe said vessel had minor snags on the delivery trip.

Wanna sell some used cars Dave, snarf snarf!

Tidnock.
I think Nationwide boat sales in Chesterfield are no more.
Dunno if it was the effect of thier trading style and /or profitability.
Someone said it was due to the rent on the sight.
Anyone know any different?

I too have used Dianne and found her great, but i understand she is about to hang up her fenders 2moro to spend more time with her family and to get out on the water far more than at present.

Cheers
Tetleys

I believe that Nationwide went "bust" , a year or so ago.

Yeh, thought so.
It was an amazing place.
Could not be further from the Sea!

With loads of boats for sale.

'Sea trial , please'

No chance!

Went with a Mate some years ago.
He purchased a Sunseeker, Tomahawk, if I remember rightly.
I bought an ex ships Lifeboat there.

As said an amazing place.

I called in, or tried to months ago it was all shut up with a sign saying they had moved to an Internet base, never found it?

In land may work, look at it this way, if you draw a 50 mile circle around Chesterfield how many households do you contain within that the area of operation. Do the same with a marina half the catchment area is sea.
