Hi all,
I've seen these netbooks these netbooks on ebay, they have Android 2.1 OS, 8GB solid state drive & a USB port. Can anyone advise whether it would be possible to get the Navionics app installed & working on one with a USB GPS? Also whether it would be possible to somehow install Open CPN on one?
TIA,
David.

I cant answer the techy questions, but having progressed through laptop/netbook/tablet. Practically tablets are the easiest to use on a boat, easier to find waterproofing solutions, easier to move about the place and the touch screen makes it easy to use.

Loads of well priced tablets, most with built in GPS which may fit the bill rather better than a net book. All IMHO of course.

Hudl 2 springs to mind.

I started with a netbook about 4 years ago with Imray charts. It was ok but the charts were expensive and I didn't bother with the yearly updates as it was expensive. Then I got a Samsung tab2 10" tablet and got the Navionics app - the whole of uk, Belgium, N France and Holland for £38! Suberb setup and I've used it a lot for the last 2 years. I don't use the netbook, it was so sloooooooow even surfing the net!

Ano5her advantage of a tablet is that you can get waterproof covers and an ARM holder and bracket easily. If you go for a tablet get one with built in gps, as said earlier the hudle 2 is supposed to be good.
