HI All,
I was walking the dogs on Dale beach last Sunday when I came across a big fishing net. It was just to the right of the flag pole (looking towards the sea).
As I got closer I could see that it was actually quite big and a potentially big hazard to boats and ships!
The tide was making and the wind was offshore, it was a miracle that it didn't get caught on any of the moored boats when it washed up but with an offshore wind it would either have got caught in the moorings or gone into the shipping lane!
I tried to pull it up the beach but it must have been over 20foot long and I couldnt move it.
I rang the coastguard but they said that nothing could be done about it until Monday.
There was a mixture of everything, thick rope, net, weights etc.
I couldnt just walk away from it as part of it was already starting to float. In the end after much struggle trying to pull it up (with people sat outside the bar watching!) my only option was to weigh it down with loads of stones.
I wonder if it was removed the next day?
Ian
