neptunian boats

I have looked at two of them, one in Essex and one on the Clyde. They look really tough boats and I would have been ready to sail anywhere in either, but we had issues with the accommodation arrangements on both, so did not seriously consider buying. I also was a bit put off by the large underwater surface area, as a fin and skeg can give better sailing while remaining good at sea.

However any boat is a compromise and what suits one person may not suit another.

There were a couple on the Clyde and one over on the Forth coast in the late 80's built like tanks but had a tendancy to blister. Hulls were designed by Alan Buchanan moulded by Tylers and fitted out by Johnson and Jago at Leigh on Sea introduced about 1970 and were uprated to ketch rig around 1977

Re: The Neptunian 33

Here is a copy of an old catalogue I have from the 70's :

The inside of the catalogue was too big too scan, so I took a couple of photos of the pages instead - however they are a bit askew, sorry.

Ref Neptune/Neptunian 33

Hi

The Neptunian 33 is the centre cockpit aft cabin version Ketch, The neptune 33 is the after cockpit sloop version.

The Hull is the same and the main mast and headsail is the same.

I have the Neptunian 33 and had her 5-6 years now. They are a great sea boat and long range cruising vessel. In there day when first brought out they were at the top of end of the market. Build quality is great. Huge range due to size of water tanks (150 gallon and glassed into keel) and 100 gallons fuel in twin tanks.

Been really pleased with ours. Been in some really bad weather in her and she just takes it. Long keel means you have to work the engine when manouvering in tight spaces but that come with practice.
