Nelson Halmatic 40

Hi folks
I have recently acquired an ex pilot boat called the Warden. It used to be the backup pilot boat in the river Boyne Drogheda Co. Louth Ireland. It was then purchased by ABCO marine for a few Jobs but then after port side engine trouble has been laid up for 5-7 years. She is in some state! But the hull is perfect I have found the Halmatic build plate in the stern but it’s hard to make out. Looks like she is built in 1980 and I can just make out the build number. How can I find out more about this boat? I’ve spent hours searching online and can’t find anything. I tried contacting Halmatic but it seems impossible

Tyler Mouldings were incorporated in 1961 (the same year as TT Boats Designs) in Tonbridge, Kent and was run by John Tyler. They were commercial moulders who originally produced concrete mouldings and diversified into producing GRP boat mouldings for fitting out by other companies. They were always in fierce competition with Halmatic and produced the Nelson 34 with a MK1, MK2 and MK3 (aft cabin) superstructures, as well as the ‘Squashed’ Wheelhouse roof MK3 for use on HMS Ark Royal. Britannia also had MKIII 34’s on board. Thames Police used an extra high, but short wheelhouse version, which enabled them to wear their tall helmets! Tylers also moulded the Nelson 45 hull and ring deck, plus the later Nelson 26/27/28/29 design from TT boats.

The owners club worth joining too, lots of folk there with extensive knowledge.

Great boat. I'm very envious. What needs doing?

I did say my current boat would be my last, but a Nelson 40 would tempt me.
