Negative surge for 09th Dec

Thanks for the heads-up. It seems that the positive surge this morning is exceeding forecast (http://www.ntslf.org/storm-surges/latest-surge-forecast?port=Felixstowe).

Your aspiration to walk to Bawdsey made me think of Poussin's The Crossing of the Red Sea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crossing_of_the_Red_Sea_(Poussin) - and that you should have a modern Poussin on hand to record the event! But I then found another painting by Ivan Aivazovsky which looks to me a lot more like the banks of the Deben (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aivazovsky_Passage_of_the_Jews_through_the_Red_Sea.jpg) :)

(BTW, that line of thinking also took me to papers reporting modelling of meteorological conditions which might have parted the Nile waters, and I don't think the bend in the Deben entrance is quite sharp enough for you to hope for direct wind setdown to permit your walk!)

Was there a negative one predicted yesterday? High water at Maldon yesterday pm was lower than predicted, which scuppered my (already postponed) liftout when I turned up. Needed a smart U-turn and a rush back to Heybridge Basin to lock back in before the lock operators went home :o I assumed High Pressure system was to blame. Next set of springs are uncomfortably close to Christmas - oo-er missus!

Was there a negative one predicted yesterday?

Yes, that weather system really messed with the predictions
