Should I expect heavy seas coming in from Cherbourg tomorrow in the increasingly strong easterlies? Should be off Needles fairway buoy around 1300 BST.

Intent would be to anchor in Alum bay or Toland bay.

Thoughts?

Ty!

Forecast is saying slight or moderate and is 4-6 occasionally 7 so will be reasonable seas until the tide turns.

My issue would be more that you will be trying to enter the Needles Channel against wind and tide. You'll have about 3 knots of foul tide at Hurst by the time you get there. A lot will depend on the wind of course as NE or E makes a big difference to the course you can lay. If you could lay it comfortably I would be try to come in via the Eastern Solent.

Interesting the inshore waters forecast for the area shows the next 24 hours as 3-4 later and backing SW so a delay may be better.

I recall thinking that 4-6 was an OK forecast to leave Weymouth for the Solent in our Snapdragon 24. When we were off St Albans Head, Bramblemet was showing sustained 33 knots.

Madame still hasn't forgiven me...

Thanks for the replies! 33kt eek! We did the passage in 12 hours (surprised by size of the sea, was scared at times) and yes it was a struggle from needles lighthouse to the anchorage.
