Our boat will be in Southampton for a show in Empress Docks in a few weeks time. We have a 12m Cat that draws 1.5m and we are looking for suitable fueling locations (Diesel). Any recommendations from those in the know?

As you go up the River Itchen, & pass the Itchen bridge, there is a fuel pontoon that sells Diesel (no petrol from memory), on the left hand side (Port for the purists!), about 1/4 of a mile up river.

You will have no problems with depth, or accomodating a cat, from a size perspective.

The fuel pontoon on the Medina always seems to be far cheaper than most in the area also. Makes me think someone is subsadising the Islands fuel ..... at the expense of us mainlanders. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I wish - doesn't get used much by locals, reputation for dirty diesel last summer.

I always fill up in Lymington or Port Hamble.

Ahhh - that explains why it is so much cheaper than Port Hamble - took a trip down the Medina and noticed that before xmas, it was 65p ltr - travelled back down the Hamble on the way "home", and on the same day, P/Hamble was 88p ltr. I was told that this was down to old stocks (before the price drops), so guess that goes in part to explaining the price differential.

Thanks for the heads up on the dirty diesel, as I intended to tank up there, while on the next jaunt to the Folly.

Have filled up at Cowes for years and never a problem with dirty fuel but filled up in October only to return to Hamble and find MDL considerably cheaper!!! obviously have to allow for the MDL berthholders discount, could have saved enough for more than the odd drink through the year.
Operator at Cowes had said when Harbour Commission took over that plan was to keep prices low and encourage boaters in to Cowes but this had become difficult and had to make a profit.
