Need ICC for Spain/Portugal?

Well the RYA would recommend you have one, it must be a good earner for them.

None of this stuff existed when we first kept a boat in Spain and I still don't have any of this sort of paper.

A 2 day course with an RYA school is enough for a total beginner to get the certificate. Why should we have to waste our pension paying for that?

I expect I will come up against some ignorant jobsworth sooner or later and regret not having the piece of paper that some interfering busybody has decreed to be necessary.

Rant over now (but I did rather enjoy it). /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps we should produce a YBW forum certificate

it would state thate the person in charge of the Uk registered vessel is qualified under UK jurisdiction to be in charge.

do we have any contributors’ that could produce the document?

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Great idea, and put Dans phone number on the bottom so if any foreign official has got a problem with it they can phone him for confirmation of what fine upstanding citizens we are

Producing our own (ybw) would be a great idea, if only to see the reaction of foreign dignitaries. All joking aside in all my travels our YM certificates have proved more than enough, so why an ICC?

Hi, sort of related question, don't mean to hijack the thread.. has anyone been asked for an ICC in Madeira or Canaries?

I suppose the key word is "International".

I'm not sure why there is an opposition to obtaining an ICC when it's just a paperwork exercise with you having a YM.
Surely it would be wiser to have one than not, it might avert a possible problem.
On the other hand you could wing it with what you already have and take your chances. I can assure you that I would not have bothered if I thought it wasn't necessary. A bit of belt and braces and piece of mind was our reason for getting ours.
As I have said previously, the Latino's can be a pragmatic bunch of which I don't want to give them a reason to get their teeth into me.
I know it's another piece of paper that does not come anywhere near the qualifications that you already hold, but it's just the way of the modern world of bureaucracy and I would think we can all equate to that. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
