Need help understanding tachograph please

Hey guys, we've got a pair of CAT 3208Ts in our Trader.
It seems we have a magnetic type tachograph for RPM, you'll see in the photo of the belt cover, what appears to the pickup.
I need to replicate this on the other engine as for some reason the pickup is missing and the connecting cable cut

Could the wise owls of the forum please explain how this work and is the pickup itself magnetic? how do i replicate?

Firstly checking what is on the other engine will tell you what you require and you could transfer the sender and wire it up to check

do you actually mean a tachograph which is usually used to record driver hours etc not a tachometer for engine revs
