I have a a pair of Volvo Penta MD32's that run on shafts on my 1969 Storebro 34.

Problem.

They are now currently completely re-furbished - but in bits. The restorers have done a wonderful job with all parts refurbished, replaced or rebuilt. However time is running out. We have overstayed our welcome at a mid-Thames mooring were the general boatbuilding work has been going on. The restorers have a prior major commitment they must fulfill - and can't start rebuilding for a month.
They are quite happy for the parts to be collected and rebuilt by another party.

Question.

Does anybody know of a diesel engine mechanic/service who can take on the assembly, then deliver the engines to the mid-Thames boat builder?

Cash is waiting

Many thanks

Ive got an MD32 on my boat, 4 years ago i took it out to repaint,in the end we took the head off sump off to check the oil feed, and the heat exchanger which was in bad condition.

All in all you could have one together in a day,you just need to know which order to reassemble,if you took it apart that shouldent be a problem,

The longest job i found was the painting. I did mine in a workshop with all the tools i could need and someone to advise if i got stuck, The only thing i needed were the tools if its in a work shop with tools shoulent be any problem.

Hope that helps a bit.

If the engines are indeed in a thousand bits, then it is definitely going to require a diesel mechanic to re-assemble them. The correct torque-wrench settings for each size of bolt will be necessary, but most important of all is the correct timing of the valves and the injectors. Because of the higer stresses involved, a diesel engine is less tolerant of dockside bodgers than a car engine would be. Modern car petrol engines with their fuel injection are also out of the range of the amateur. With all the diesel cars that abound in Britain there must also surely be a similar abundance of diesel mechanics. If the rest of the engine has been overhauled, I would hope that the injection pump and injectors have been simialrly treated.
Peter.
