Help, please - on removing the boom for the winter lay-up, I find that the gooseneck slide has fractured. It's a slide which fits on a track on the mast and into which fits a pin on the end of the boom.
The slide was a Barton product but they now tell me they haven't manufactured them for some years. I suppose this means that I should now think about a new boom-end fitting. The boom was made by Sparlight but they seem to have disappeared as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Yep .... local Metal fabricators ...... why change it all for a fee - they should be able to machine one up ?? make sure you say its in a corrosive environment etc.

OR ...check through yards / Boats and Outboards / Boats for Sale etc. - often booms / masts etc. come up ... the slide fitting you mention was not in many sizes - so you should be able to get hold of one of various similar style masts lieing around yards etc. Try asking if a broken mast etc. ??

Yes, thanks - I'll probably try to get one made up. I have looked through various web-sites for something similar but so far no luck

Had a similar problem with a worn part of the gooseneck. I managed to use the fitting from the slider which is used by the spinnaker pole attachment. Then replaced the slider for the pole which was a much easier replacement to find. Don't know if this would be a possibility for you but it may give you some ideas.

What do you need the gooseneck to slide up and down for anyway ?

Gooseneck slider ....

In conjunction with reefing + halyard systems - is an excellent way to tension or slack of luff of mainsail.

It adds a degree of control / adjustment to the boom / mast combination that many new boats lack.....

Yes it was normally found fitted in conjunction with Barton Roller Booms ... but it works with other systems as well.

Don't knock it - it's a good idea that has been forgotten ....

I use a cunnigham for that, so the sliding gooseneck is not really necessary.

Doesn't the Cunningham then simply exert extra force on whatever is fixed at the gooseneck ? As my fixing has fractured even although it slides it suggests something else is wrong as well. I wouldn't like to exert extra force.
