We had the handover of our new (to us) boat yesterday "Buena Fortuna" and took some pics before she is shrink wrapped and starts her journey to the Med on the 20th.

She has brand new cockpit upholstery and all being well the new mattresses from ship-shape bedding should be delivered before she is shrink wrapped.

Just one question though. We changed her name, and I think there is a traditional protocol when you do this... Despite her new name :confused:

To answer your question, the protocol is to buy a round of drinks for everyone who responds to your thread ;-)

Great looking boat, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun on her. Am I right in thinking she will be based in Alicante? If so, I am looking towards the city from where I'm typing this, a bit misty toady.

The wrap is £800, we were toying with the idea anyway. but driving from Kent to Lincoln yesterday there was so much filth spaying up, and they have to transport her nose first with the rear canopy off, so a massive vortex of grime swirling behind her, and onto my nice new upholstery so it makes sense.
 
We have always tried to follow the superstition (as found on the internet) when naming a boat. Those times when we've had bad luck with a boat we believe was due to not following protocol.
 
We have renamed two boats. We didn't follow the procedure outlined above. We did, however, at SWMBO's insistence put two silver sixpences under the mast (arch) to ward off the evil spirits. I am not conscious that we have had any more problems with the name changed boats than the other seven.

Nice looking boat. Hope she serves you well and that you have many hours of enjoyment with her.
 
The process for renaming a boat is to remove the old name, apply the new name, crack open a previously chilled bottle of Charles Heidsieck '95, and say "Cheers" or something similar.

Lovely boat, I've always liked the V42.

Just make sure the guys wrapping the boat know what their doing. I had similar boat to you wrapped for the journey to Spain and it ripped off before getting to Portsmouth and the boat arrived a complete mess. Took hours to clean it.
 
Congrats on the new boat, looks great. I've shipped my T40 to the Med twice by truck, and I didn't wrap it either time on the advice of the trucking company. What we did do is apply wax to the hull and topsides but didn't polish it up (ie left it as a haze). Then on arrival all I had to do was wipe the boat down, and all the road dirt came off with the surplus wax.

Regardless of what you decide to do, you should put all your new upholstery down below anyway, you don't know who's going to be on your boat during transport, or if the shrink wrap will stay weathertight.

Good luck with the trip - it'll be worth the effort.
 
Thanks all. Burton Waters are doing the wrapping so should be well experienced, but I take the point about a nick in the wrap early in the journey.

I have to say that we were extremely impressed with the way BW presented her yesterday and we want to preserve the cockpit as much as possible, so wrapping gives us the best chance of this and anything that can be moved will be down below for the trip.
 
Wrapping a wise choice in this case !- in the winter .

The factory wrapped our Sunseeker for trucking to SoF .

It was a P-ex d in against a new one .At the time 2005 they brought them back (from the Med ) to "refinish them "
So it' was antifouled ,polished.etc like new .
Any thing "soft " was replaced covers ,carpets ,headlining + much more in the finishing shed @ Poole .
So basically @ this level of presentation they wrapped it ,I did not know any different or had any say
We arrived ( flew in ) 1/2 hr after the truck left @La Rague -boat hanging in the hoist .
It was lunch .@ 2pm they unwrapped it and it like Christmas -- opening a present ,like new --- all shiney etc .
There were the odd selotape adhesive marks On the hull ,but the staff just used some spray remover and detailed it .

For me my 1st MoBo wrapping just seemed normal esp new or factory refinished "new"
Btw the exterior of the wrap was filthy ( In August ) must have rained + flys .
It took about 4 hrs to get it ready @ other end --unwrap , fix radar.etc check engine fliuds etc etc .

Anyhow exciting times ,congrats Andy Bav -- wish all goes well with the "new" ---- well it will feel and look -like a new boat .
 
Congratulations - lovely boat. Hope all goes well on the delivery.

Quick thought: perhaps consider buying a radar @UK prices from cactusnav and putting in the boat before she goes - you will need one in the med (else you cannot stay out late for long boozy dinners, if you might need to go back to marina for the night) and can get a local fitter to install it

Btw, I can't see any GPS mushroom either: if she doesn't have a chartplotter, that's also a VERY useful bit of kit, for Med cruising...

Absolutely regarding the drinks, oh and Andy don't forget to say all the Hail Marys after that name change :) :)
