Near miss between ship and oil platform

This is what it looks like when a ship passes within 5m of an oil production platform at full speed.

Apparently happened in Indonesia, with no one in the wheelhouse or on the deck of the ship.

Bit scarey, inn'it.

Apparently the ship assumed it was stand-on vessel and asked the oil rig to alter course 5 degrees to the south ..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not to mention the noise, the crew were not on the bridge because they were all in the bar having a party.

And he's not even on the plane. What a wuss. Wouldn't even snap a fishing line. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Its the oil platforms fault. They only had one of those little tubular radar reflectors. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

they were all drunk maybe ?

Yesterday a cargo ship in the Channel, going to Rotterdam, has been seen going outside the TSS, then keeping a steady course against the French shore.
Military ships, helicopters and douanes have tried to raise their attention (they would not answer any radio calls), until a crew member of the ship saw all these grey ships around him, went to the deck and found the OOW drunk and asleep, reportedly at 11 miles from the coast /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It is very lucky, as the interaction (turbulance of water moving over a ships hull) could easily have drawn them together into a collision, especially at high speed, and a distance of only 5m.

But then when a ship is registered in Jakarta, what do they expect?

[/ QUOTE ]You mean like this light house

Well known legend but based on a true event in the 80s between a Canadian light house and a US warship if I remember correctly.

In the original post here it is clear that there was somebody on the bridge as the ship was turning to port as she passed the platform and the swing of the stern nearly hit the platform - common mistake?
