NB O-Rings

Hi all, an o-ring has broken on my coffee machine and DeLonghi would very much like me to pay £2.50 plus £3.25 delivery for one yes ONE replacement o-ring. the part is this one and hopefully someone on here can tell me where else to source it. It goes in the milk frother attachment so I assume needs to be food safe and OK with temperatures around 100C.

The forum has never let me down in the past so fingers crossed!

I have a box full of various nitrile O rings. If you can spec the diameter, etc, happy to send you a couple.

I would go to my local hardware store. Take the old O ring along to get one that matches.

Old fashioned plumber merchants, if you can find one, might also match it.... Not one of the modern Plum-whatever waste of space centres.

Your link only takes one to the general spares page and not to the specific item. I fear that if you go to an O ring supplier such as Barnwell, they will have a minimum order and that is likely to be about £10

If you want to pursue it further you will need to measure the section and the diameter of the O ring accurately and have a look here

One other thought is that I seem to recall pcks of O rings in B*Q
 
Thanks all, I'll have a measure. It's not the price that irks me, it's the fact I only get one in the pack and the last one failed after a month. I'd willingly spend £10 for a big bag of them because it doesn't feel like a rip off then.

I assume nitrile is the material likely used given you all seem to mention it?

I got a pack from B & Q for repairing a tap. They don't have a very large range of sizes though . They're in the plumbing section. I don't know what size the OP needs?

Thanks again everyone, looks like simplybearings have a pack of 100 delivered for £8 - this is more inline with the value of the item! I may have to buy a micrometer to check size first though - I've been looking for an excuse for quite a while :)
 
Viton / Nitrile

Not sure about Viton. Viton is good for higher temperatures but it does take on a 'set' in that it retains its compressed shape so it may leak, its also a fluoroelastomer in that it contains flourine but that should not be a problem unless the temperature goes above 300C. Viton is generaly not recomended for use with hot water or steam. You can tell if your old 'O' ring was Viton by placing it on a hard surface and letting a blunt piece of steel fall on it while holding the end of the steel. If the 'O' ring is Nitrile / Buna the steel will bounce, if it is Viton the steel will stop dead and not bounce.

What size did you get in the end ? BTW I think a micrometer is a bit OTT, a ruler would do.

A ruler to decide between 1.48mm and 1.52mm thickness? It was hard enough to work out the 8.5mm bore! Still not ordered as I've been busy with work.
 
My £9.99 digital vernier has to be near the top of my most used tools. Mine came from (now defunct) NETTO, but they regularly come up at ALDI/LIDL.

(the beautiful mechanical micrometer ... must be over 80yrs old and imperial of course ... seldom comes out of it's case; now seems such a palaver in comparison).
