Has the Home Secretary managed to pass all the blame over to the suspended Chief Constable? Should he now be known as "Teflon".

When is he going to take responsibility for the errors by the home office (rhetorical question, the two words "honour" and "politician" are totally incompatible).

Never understood why Humberside were singled out so much, apparently Linconshire police never sent a fax asking for the info that Humberside had erased, and they apparently made lots of cock-ups on the subsequent investigation.

Amazes me that there is no clear guidance from Home Office as to how un-proved allegations are meant to be used and to what extent the allegations are covered by Data Protection Act, and what info should be given out in response to a CR check.

Clearly HO responsibility to establish a standard process for these things and they have equally clearly failed to do so.

Also I did not like Blunkett's intent to "nail" the football hooligan who escaped a prison sentence because of extradition cock-up. Not Home Sec's job to pass sentence, there is a process of law to do that, and I for one believe he should have resigned or been fired because of that.

I don't know about calling him "Teflon" I would prefer to call him Ex Home Sec.

The boy has got to go

I don't think Talbot's description of 'Teflon' quite fits the bill. 'Slimey' might be more appropriate. I think he needs a good hosing down with a high pressure hose (water cannon?) and a couple of coats of good antifouling applied to his bottom with a good stiff brush. This is a yachting forum after all, and we don't want to get too political do we?

This has nothing to do with the inquiry, this is about political control of the police. The machinery is now established to remove any police chief who will not carry out the wish of his political masters. It is the first step to a police state, something that could never occur whilst Chief Constables were independant.

The next step will be the Home Secretary appointing the police chiefs he requires, it is the beginning of the end for Chief Constables.

Now, Now People, You WILL do what your elected?? representatives tell you to do. IT'S for your own safety & good, and it means that we can actually not bother about having any more elections until we have milked the system for as long as possible.....Think of the economic advantages off not having elections every 5 years....

Anybody remember the three series on BBC, the house of cards, the King maker and a third. I'm sure Blair had the idea for new Labour and how to run the country from it. Or how to manipulate the media to your advantage, and thus the population.

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment in this thread, and that the Nazi W****er of a Home Sec has to go, I am mystified as to why everybody is so suprised . I said it in 1997 and I'll say it again now - what the hell do you expect from a labour government? The whole lefty political ethos is for massive central control and legislation for every little part of everyones life. Thats what they stand for and thats what they've done. I didn't vote for the buggers because I could see all this happening.
Bottom line in this case and alot of the football alledged hooligans is that the allegations are just that - unproven allegations and it is quite correct to either prosecute someone or chuck the data away. Whats the point in having a court if the home sec is just going to decide what to do based on private unproven data?

God, I couldn't agree more.
IMHO the Labour Party have always been a party of control. They feel the need to turn everyone grey, activly encourage PC, tax everyone to the hilt and generally kick the "middle class ba***rds" to death.
As rich boat owners, we don't stand a chance.

Didn't vote for them last time, or the time before and won't in the future either. I hope and pray that others will follow this eminently sensible course of action.

IMO much of the EU is the cronies writ large.

Or an attempt by various nations from continental Europe to run the place without the risk of another war and being defeated by perfide Albion:-)

Of course, this may be untrue, I await proof that the EU/cronies are of actual benefit to me.
