We have Navtex through our DSC radio thingy and I get regular weather updates from France, Aberdeen, sometimes from the East coast of England, and very occasionally a full weather forecast which includes the Firth of Clyde and the North Channel. There was someone on here last week from Cumbria who said that he got Navtex messages from Portpatrick, which is somewhat closer to Rosneath than Cherbourg. I have set it to receive from all stations, can anyone suggest what i might do to get a more local forecast on a regular basis?

Any advice appreciated.

Read the book !! There are 2 frequencies/broadcasts and the transmitting station identities are different on each.
Portpatrick(o), Malinhead(w?) and cullercoats(g) are probably what you will receive on 518 and give offshore weather with 3-5day outlooks. 490 gives local stuff (word-for-word what the coastguard broadcasts on VHF- barring strikes) plus,(increasingly, maybe) "actuals" from local reporting positions - mesage type "V". portpatrick(c) and cullercoats(U) will be received in your area. Unfortunately, you have to switch the unit between freqs at the right time of day to get what you want. (unless you have two receivers....)

Unless you have an ICS Navtex 6+ which receives them both simultaneously...
