Navtex USB

Had a Wetterbox worked perfectly better than any of the McMurdos that I had and a lot less trouble than using SSB seemed to be a very sensitive receiver could easily pull in iceland spain, Ireland, holland and portugal when sat at home in the midlands and never a problem on the boat.

We bought the NASA one. It was absolutely hopeless.

Have now junked it.

Thats odd. Turned mine on last night and this morning had norway, netherlands, hamburg, Ostend, france & UK. Though that was using backstay as antenna. Surrounded by tall buildings.

Got a NASA Navtex, wired through the mast. It works excellently once you get used to setting it up and leaving it powered up as much as possible.
Best consistent and reliable source of weather information as long as 'they' remember to broadcast the information.

To clarify, the problem was one of software. Despite several discussions with NASA's software consultant we could not get it to function properly. After quite a few hours I decided that I'd wasted enough time on the subject.

I posted about this some time ago. Several forum members gave helpful advice, which was much appreciated. However there comes a time when it's best to quit.

The antenna supplied was within a short plastic tube like this:
