Navtex...should I get it fixed?

"imaginary circumnavigation " ? I'm puzzled by this.
I would get it fixed. You can't have too many weather forecasts and I don't like having stuff that doesn't work. Search online for info on internal fuses and batteries and other cause of failure. The fact that it's been disconnected for a while must be significant.
 
What are the screens so problematic with these? Mines been repaired in the past but gone again, nasa which probably explains it

Yes, mine is the same - usually it comes on with random letters and numbers, but once left to charge, works fine after a day or so.

Interesting article in PBO this month discussing the benefits or otherwise of Navtex.
