Dear listers,

it must be old age, but I can't access the full menu (with BACKLIGHT, GPSDATA, DSC SETUP etc.) anymore. I have ATIS programmed in, and the MMSI number for DSC. After going to sea a month ago, I disabled ATIS and am on DSC ever since. Now, I want to reverse the situation, but I'm stuck with the DSC call menu ('individual', 'last call' etc.) and unable to find the DSC and Radio main setup menu. Call/menu only gives me the DSC menu.

Thanks in advance,

The 7100 and 7200 are slightly different radios, but the operating instructions are fairly clear in the manuals. If you don't have the manual for whichever radio you own, you can download it from here.

thank you, PVB.
The problem is not the lack of manuals; have them on board in print and on file. I know some parts of the menu are unavailable when certain features are enabled or disabled. But I'm stuck now how to get back to the upper level menu. Normally, it's just the Call/menu button, but this offers me just the DSC Call menu; maybe a software lockup?

Is it possible the radio remembers the last menu used, and displays that when you press Call/Menu? If that's the case, what happens when you press ESC - does it go back one stage in the menu tree?

Never seen the last menu recalled. The manual doesn't mention this feature. No amount of ESC presses gets me to the main menu. The screen goes simply to the DCS operating screen and channel 16 'Distress'. I've cleared the call logs. Pressing Call/menu again goes directly to the DSC call submenu.
When DSC was disabled, ATIS would come up and in that mode, the last channel used is remembered.
Cheers (...not yet...)

The menu button has 2 settings. Push once and you get one layer, push and hold and you should get the next layer.

Yes, you have to press and hold to get into the menu - I'd assumed he knew that, it's clear enough in the manual. Sounds like he's not pressing and holding.

PVB, Solitaire

thank you for the replies. To put it simply, after holding the Menu key, the menu looked the same, but in fact the extra options show up after scrolling the selection knob far enough. As I said, more little grey cells died off.
Sorry for going to the trouble of answering my query. And I really did read, and reread,, TFM...
