Hi All, can anybody tell me the difference between navman and northstar. Are they fazing one brand out in favor of another. As I fancy a navman 6600 trackfish but see that the northstar brand is a more popular stockist in the states. Any ideas ???????

I have the Navman 8120 at my main helm. On the flybridge, I have bought the Northstar M8, which is the same as the Navman 8084.

The both link together by the "Navbus" and NMEA comms, along with the Navman 7200 VHF, diesel flow sensors, AIS etc.

I bought the M8 from the US and saved over £400 from the cheapest I could find in the UK on the net. That's including carriage and all taxes. Northstar is the "US" brand name for Navman, but the kit is essentially the same!

I was told by a dealer at SIBS that Northstar will supercede Navman as there is blatant brand conflict between the brands that are both owned by Navico. Interestingly if you look at the Navman global website you can't seem to find the marine electronics anymore.

Doubt it makes any functional difference which one you buy as they are identical.

Many of the instruments are identical, but there are a few Navman bits that you can't get in Northstar guise. The fuel flow system for one and a few of the plotters/fishfinders.
