navman 7200 vhf help needed

just taken delivery of new navman 7200 dsc radio. all seems okay but 5 mins after switching on, the radio starts ringing, to which I have to press esc to cancel it - any thoughts anyone on what this is. this is my first DSC so a bit naive

don't know if it makes any difference but I haven't put my MMSID in yet

It's telling you that it doesn't have a gps signal. It will do this every time it is switched on but once cancelled it won't do it again until switched off and on again.

all dsc radio's do that if they're not connected to gps via nmea.

ahh ! cheers guys - yes I havnt connected the GPS yet

you can also switch the warning off via the menu if you are not going to be connected to the GPS for an extended period. Forget exactly where on the menu it is but a few minutes exploring the menu settings (I think under the GPS heading) will find it.
Good radio with big screen but I think the menus are a bit confusing
