Can anyone who has one of these remember if they have an audio out on the back? (The manual is down on the boat and the navman website doesn't have any manuals that show it).

I seem to remember a 3.5mm jack in the back of it (The radio doesn't go loud enough for me so i want to connect it into an amplifier/speakers).

Is that correct?

Yes, it has audio out. I think it's via a separate cable at the back with a jack socket moulded on to it. If you don't have a suitable plug, just cut the socket off and connect direct to the white & black cores.

Excellent! There is an old car stereo installed above the helm. I'm going to rip that one out and replace it with one with a aux input so I can use that as the amplifier (There are loads cheap on ebay). In fact I might get one that will play DVD's and DivX's as well!

How loud do you want it?

The 7100 has a 4W output into a 4ohm external speaker. That's normally enough for most people.

Re: How loud do you want it?

Not if I'm in the cockpit at the back of the boat with the engines running. I'm planning on running some extra wires to an external speaker.

For example I was in the tawe lock and the lock keeper shouted me on the VHF to tell me that there would be a boat rafting up against my port side. I was outside adjusting the ropes and didn't hear him. In the end he had to use a tannoy.

I have fitted Navman Instruments on my boat and, like you keep the manuals on the boat but help is at hand. Google "Plastimo" ,go to plastimo.com and in products you will find navman, and a link to download any manual

Re: How loud do you want it?

You are going to be so popular if you leave it on in an anchorage /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope you are not leaning over the back when a DSC alert comes in, it'll shake the boat to bits!

Re: How loud do you want it?

I think a switch just inside the cabin to isolate the exterior speaker will be useful!
