I took my not-quite-so-trusty-as-it-was Navman in for a free software upgrade as it had been playing up a bit. Hardly surprising as due to general abuse on my part, the screen had developed a small crack and had somehow been oressed back from the frame and probably been letting in water.
My unit is near 2 years old and, they told me, still under a no-quibble guarantee. They took it in and then loaned me a new unit at no cost while my unit was being repaired. 3 weeks later, my unit has come back with a brighter brand new screen and boots up in under 30 seconds. All fixed and at no charge whatsoever. Now that's what I call service.
