Excellent. Do a search and you will find many previous references to Navman plotters, We have a 5500i (with integral GPS) as a cockpit standalone and backup to our main plotter at the nav table.

We have the 5600 . It is definately worth the extra for the bigger screen. Expect to pay around £775.

We don't want a sports cruiser, totally impractical. Err ok then.

Excellent...

Navman plotters are excellent! Easy and intuitive to use. Well made. And some superb features, like the clear compass "ribbon" and the customisable data screen.

If you can stretch to the 5600, you'll find it much easier to use, especially if you're viewing it across the cockpit. The 6.4" screen might not sound much bigger than a 5" screen, but it's actually over 60% bigger in area, and that makes everything a lot clearer to see.

I have one, and bought it in Florida - much cheaper. A really good device, and needs to be installed where you can see it from the helm position! If your boat has the space, the 5600 is better for ageing eyes! The superwide cartridges are great as well, but best to wait for that until the next update (april I think).

A superb piece of kit. SWMBO gave me mine for Christmas in 2003 and much the best present I have received for years. I have mine mounted on the binacle. The built-in GPS and aerial makes it very simple to mount and remove but it can lose the signal if someone is standing right over it for a while. A second slot for the C-Map cartridge would be handy to save having to switch off while crossing chart boundaries.
With the radar mounted under the spray hood and the plotter on the binacle, I am beginning to think that the chart table may soon be redundant. There is a lot of useful space there. Any ideas for its use?

I never make the same mistake twice. I always make new ones.

First thing I bought for the boat. It saves all the worry about whether you have got your chartwork right or not. Good for your confidence. I managed to pilot straight into an unfamiliar lock at low tide ,in the dark with nothing but glistening mud all around, purely by watching my course unfold on the Navman. Couldn't have done it without. Definitely get one it is excellent value.

Good luck
