I ahve just acquired a Navman 100 depth secondhand. It is quite new. the transducer is a thru hull one. My old Seafarer transducer is located inside the hull in castor (I think) oil. Can the Navman be mounted the same way anf if so how as the transducer housing is clearly for thru hull?

I have downloaded the manual but it is quite soilent on this point.

Any help gladly appreciated.

A depth transducer

needs direct contact. If you immerse it in oil inside the hull, the signal can penetrate the oil/hull/water interface without problems. I expect you can mount your new transducer the same as your old one.

Try it out - better than drilling a hole mm?

I have a Navman 100 log / echosounder and have the through hull transducer for the sounder mounted onto an internal tube filled with water. Bit of a bodge on the mounting front but works fine for me. I don't even use castor oil just sea water and that seems to work. Just need to top it up sometimes when evaporation takes place.
