When I came to use Navionocs on my ipad yesterday it had lost all details on the charts and only recovered them when I connected to the internet. I had not used the app for a couple of weeks. I thought that once charts for an area had been downloaded they stayed downloaded. The app is using a total of 1.2 gig so it must be storing something. I do not have a SIM card installed on the iPad so the loss of chart data is a worry (I do have the gps version of iPad). Anybody know why this happens and how to avoid it?

I had this issue last year and I think there was a thread about it in the past

As far as I can ascertain, the issue is that if your iPad runs out of memory when downloading something, the navionics charts seem to get ' bumped' and go to a smaller file version, which then gets refreshed when you access it whilst on the internet.

I haven't had the issue since I stayed on top of sudden demands for space, usually from IOS attempting to trigger update downloads, or the Times App not archiving properly.

+1 it was very sudden. I was out today using it till about 3pm then when I looked again at 4 the charts had gone and I had a “free trial expired” message which is rubbish. Weird as like you not connected to internet at the time. Have you also noted that you get a brief not connected to internet message when starting the app even if you are.
