Hi all, I've just bought the Navionics App on my iPhone and I've a question if anyone knows the answer.

The depths shown on there are presumably chart datum depths (i.e. worst case scenario). I've noticed that if I click on the tides icon, I can have a real time depth from that tide (even future), which is really handy. But is there a way to have this 'real time' depth showing by default on the chart? i,e, without having to go into the tide part each time?

Thanks for any help.

I'm interested to know the answer to this, and would like to ask an additional question.

Is there any way to choose a minimum depth and have the chart show the go and no go areas with, say, different colours. If it can do that with live depths it would be very handy.

I've had navionics on my phone and tablet for years and it once saved me sailing up Calf Sound off the isle of man at maximize ebb but that's another story.
As far as I know, the answer to both questions is No and I don't know of any e charts that have the features you want.

I think you will find this is possible by adjusting the depth at which colours change. Explore the settings as I have done it in the past.

The only way I have managed that is to display the tides and keep the time line and the Now marker aligned with the Target on the screen. It is easy enough to do. As the time line moves you move the Now marker to align with the Target and the depths change.

As someone who has just bought a yacht with a 1.7m draft, and sailing in the river Humber, I need to keep a very close eye on depths! I love the way it does it with the tides option, I just can't see a way to keep this view by default as soon as I touch the screen I lose it and it defaults back to the chart datum depths. Come on Navionics, give us an update!

Don’t forget that past the bridge is not charted before bridge just watch the depth gauge not the chart, get a few tracks marked and they work well, we sail from winteringham so as you say have to be very careful

Trouble is by the time the depth gauge tells me it’s too late ha ha.

You’d be better off with the Imray tide app, set your minimum depth for a tight spot and sail accordingly. Real time info.

I've just returned from a 'boys trip' on a friends (new to him) boat, a Dufour 39cc, which was it's first long journey, Felixstowe Ferry to Whitby and back via Hull, King's Lynn, Lowestoft then home. Used my Navionics app on a tablet with an oldish Garmin chart plotter and Navionics on 2 phones. (A new chart as well of course!) The Navionics was excellent - but we had been warned that don't use Navionics or a chart plotter going to King's Lynn - you MUST follow the buoys. I like the Navionics app and the tide info is fine, never had a problem with it.
