Hello, I know nothing about the chart packages that you can download onto your phone so I wondered if anyone out there uses them. Second query is that I have just up graded my phone after 3 years with a brick and I have a Samsung S3 Galaxy which I think is quite new to the market place and I cannot see it on the Navionics compatibillity list aaaaaagh Thanks Colin.
 
Just installed it on an ASUS T300 Tablet. Appears to work ok.
Routing is very basic and I hope they will improve that a bit sometime.
GPS generates a track which can be saved.

I found I was walking the dog this morning at up to 2.7 knots :D

As to how well it works on the water. We will see hopefully this weekend.

I have Navionics and Navionics HD working on a Galaxy S3 - it's fine.
 
I do most of my navigating with my smart phone and navionics. Slips into my oilies pocket. As a returner to cruising after 20 years away from it, I indeed find the world transformed. IPad and paper charts which I keep below are rarely used.

Hello Thanks for that the S3 is not on their compatabillity list so I had thought of waiting but if it works for you (and the tech girl at Navionics suspected it would be ok) then blow it I will download it tonight. Really appreciate the feedback.

I believe the compatibility list is purely a list of devices that have been tested and certified. It's very rare for an app not to work on a particular device and, when it does happen, the web is normally full of it.

I couldn't see a lot of difference in the display quality between the HD and the previous version frankly. The S3 has a very good screen but my eyes aren't up to much so perhaps that's not surprising. I was hoping for some upgrade in the functionality but if there is any I can't see it. For an Android phone at least I wouldn't recommend HD over the other version.
 
I have an Android phone and an Android tablet (Samsung 10.1), using the same Navionics license for both! Which is the intention from both Android and Navionics.
Funny enhough, it is no longer possible to up-date the version on the Tablet, as Navionics want to steer me towards the HD version (which of course I would have to pay for, much more expensive).

Anyhow, it is really a bargin: I paid only about £10 for access to most of Europe charts (not UK).

It should be noted that it is not exactly the same chart data as Navionics on plotter (which I also use): some details are missing, but in some cases the Andoid version actually has more accurate information.

To use the tablet down in the boat, as an extra plotter, works fine. Battery lasts for hours.

I downloaded the original Navionics version onto my HTC Desire shortly after the app was released for the Android system.
On the same licence I later downloaded the app onto my Samsung Galaxy tablet.
Then I had to do a reset to factory default on the HTC and lost the app. Navionics wanted me to spend more on the new version.
However, the original app is still on the Galaxy.
I may pay the extra for the comfort of knowing I can download the new version to both my phone and the tablet, but is there any other driving reason to upgrade?
 
you get tide info based on current position, the interface is a bit better but overall not that much difference IMO

The most recent upgrade deleted a lot of the chart detail in my sailing area - SW Scotland/N Ireland. Don't know if it was intentional or not!!!???

Gordon, have you tried to handle this on your app-page? Use https://play.google.com/apps, you of course have to login, and then you can push your app to your HTC (provided it is the same user, which you describe it to be). As the app is still registered to your account, then it should not be a problem.

Jackho, propose you try to delete all your downloaded charts and then download again. I have had similar problems, solved this way. Not sailing in the same area, but would guess Navionics still have the same amount of data available.

Shouldn't that be techie or tech WOMAN? Are you a boy? Was she still at school? We should really have got a hold of this vocabulary issue by now. (in response to several refs in this thread.) But we could all think twice and that includes all your female members over 18 who refer to themselves as 'girls'.

Two questions about this app - 1) can you move a route waypoint when it's in the midle of a route, and 2) when using when sailing, is there a way to 'navigate to waypoint' - complete with bearing, etc?

Got the Glaxy 1 with navionics. As I've said many times on this forum, its an interesting toy and maybe, just maybe, and emergency back up if you have nothing better, but it is not a substitute for a plotter or chart. Screen is far too small and many functions are missing from the package.

Worth buying if you like gadgets but I'm willing to bet you will not use it in anger after the first couple of goes. Its a bit like trying to do your emails or browse the net on a phone - a PITA.

Colin twice referred to the Navionics "tech girl". If we are to assume that she's not actually a moonlighting school pupil, Snorkmaiden would prefer that people use the adult term.
