Looking at purchasing one and have found that the 25+ (English Channel + a bit extra) and the 28 (whole UK) are the same price. However, question for the forum is - what's the catch?

Are they both to the same level of detail etc etc. What, if anything, have they left out of the whole UK one to keep it the same price?

Thanks all

28P+ is missing anything to do with Germany and grinds to a halt going Eastwards before 25P+ does.

Detail on the UK South Coast and Channel is otherwise identical, as far as I could see.

Thanks for the replies - question now then is do I want the 3D views and extra POIs.....

I think No is the answer to that. I would rather they spent the money on making sure their cartography is more accurate but I guess that isn't going to look as good at boat shows as a 3D view of Portsmouth

Chart pricing is completely flawed. I have the entire uk and ireland on my android phone (galaxy s) for £20 while they still charge more for plotters and pcs.

which chart system is that? I know Navionics is available on I-phone.

I agree with Mike. IMO, anything more than Gold is a waste of money for bling. I can't relate 3D views to my navigation requirements. Seeing a 3D view or a Google Earth picture doesn't help in keeping me off the East Coast sandbars.

I find the pictures of marinas and harbours quite useful. They help match up what's on the chart to what I might expect to see.

Now i've switched from Navioncs to Garmin, i get all the 3D stuff and pictures, no choice with the G2 vision cards. It also has some other views on the Garmin plotter. Personally, i find anything other than the olde worlde chart style layout less than ideal. I look at it and kind of mentally translate what i see into the chart view lol. So, i stick to simple. Each to their own of course.

How long have you been using the Garmin? I had it for a while a few years back, and while it seemed a bit cartoon like compared to "proper" charts, in fact it rather grew on me.
The only issue seems to be if you use both side by side, which I sometimes do.

Only a few months. The G2 vision charts on a GPSMAP 4010 don't really appear much different to Navionics on Raymarine or C-Map on Standard Horizon, at least nothing has struck me as particularly different.
