Navionics or Marine Navigator App ?

What's important for you? Navionics has tidal information and very smooth zooming. With Marine Navigator you can use BA charts from visit my harbour, a real bargain. I've only seen Navionics on the iPad but I prefer raster charts so wen for MN.

Just bought and setup MN fired off by this thread.
Costwise they are the same.
Navionics (non HD) is circa £20.
Marine Navigator plus the Visit My Harbour charts are £5.5 +£14.99 respectively.

It's a bit off a faff dowloading the VMH charts , unzipping them . loading to your smartphone etc. and then getting the activation file.
The process is not quite like that described using Windows 7 but it's easy enough to follow.

However once it's done I quite like the end result.
No , it does not zoom and pan with the smoothness of Navionics vector charts but it is very clear , i like the conventional colours on the Admiralty charts.
It also takes a few seconds sometimes to redraw the screen when you pan. Remember the Note is a fast smartphone.

Not used the thing in anger yet but the signs are good.

I am running it on a Galaxy Note 2 , Android 4.1.1.

I tried Plan2nav about 2 months ago but it stopped working on my Note once I had paid for the 2013 update. Jeppessen could not fix it so i had my money back.
The worst thing about plan2nav was the detail level at close zooms was too low. Others have also commented on this fact also.
I have to say Jepessens tried hard and stayed in contact with me so I reckon their support is not too bad.

I have Navionics on my ipad so now i can play with them both and compare and contrast.

Just installed MN on a old tablet running Android 2.2.2 and it seems to work. Tried it while crossing North Channel @ 30 knts. The chap at VMH was very helpful as i had some issues with memory and reading data card. Worth the £20 odd quid.
