Navionics on Ipad

Have just purchased UK and Holland charts. When I came to download the chart it seems I was given an option of which area I could choose, all in a square or rectangular box which I could expand until I was told that the area chosen was too large. Nothing at all like the area shown on the preview, all irregular shapes.

So thinks I, not likely to go anywhere N of the Wash or S Wales, so that was my northerly limit and then allowed me to expand to just below the Gironde to the South. Excellent, just the area I actually wanted in the first place.
Downloaded the chart. But I now only have the area from the north as I selected down to just north of Brest!! So the worst of both worlds, not even the whole of Uk and Ireland, in fact all of Ireland missing, along with most of Wales and all of Scotland and most of England. And none of the French coast I was after.

I feel robbed. Sent emails to both Apple and Navionics, told to expect a reply within 24 hrs which hasn't happened.

So although I've used Navionics on my Iphone and think it's a great idea I'm now left feeling pretty p1ssed off with my recent purchase, just under £40 spent for not what I wanted or what was advertised.

Am I the only one?

I don't know,
but it is a good warning for those who are going to install Navionics on their Ipad.

just got an Ipad for my birthday,
and having seen Navionics working on swmbo's Iphone,
I was planning to install it on my Ipad.
will pay extra attention when selecting the region

not sure yet what to select:
- Belgium Coast
- Shotland
- Italian Coast
- French coast
or
- Croatian coast

I think you've probably loaded 28XG UK & Ireland which goes to south to Brest and that you will have to load another region...at an additional price.

They seem to have changed the areas and called them something different. It's supposed to be all Uk and Ireland but I have most of it missing!!

I suppose you realise that you can download as many areas as you want from the purchased chart area in large or small chunks to suit your trip?

I've just checked that I have the latest updates (iPad says I do) and what you need to do is this:

You've got the iNavX app?

OK, activate it. ("Click on it" is too, too Windows I'm afraid)

You'll get a screen which shows that you have bought Navionics 28XG UK and Ireland.

Tap it.

You'll get a screen that says (at the top): "Update Chart List".

Tap it.

I think you'll then get an option to "download all charts" within the portfolio which you have bought (I don't because I've already done that).

Do that and you should get detailed charts for all areas around UK and Ireland and south to just north of Brest on the French Atlantic coast. (Or just download the ones you want. I can't really see why you wouldn't download them all because it doesn't seem to slow down the iPad.)

Thanks, that's done it. It would have helped if that was made clear in some instructions, of which there were virtually none.

Dont know about Iphones etc but with android I have it installed on both my phone and tab but only paid once.

I use the iPhone version on my iPad with the 2x mode on to fill the screen. Works fine. One iTunes account is happy to sync it to two devices. It's a novelty, great fun on a cruise ship or a ferry, or for pax on a leisure boat, but for real nav I'll stick with a marinised waterproof chart plotter.

He's not using InavX. Just the stand alone Navionics. I found the InavX to be a bit of a con as you have to buy it, then buy a subscription to download charts, then buy the charts. With Navionics all you buy is the chart and you get the plotting software with it.

Couldn't agree more, however as a back up device it is a pretty useful tool. I had considered the purchase of a hand held gps but was reluctant to pay circa €400 for a decent model which would never see any use except in an emergency. Having the Navionics app on the iPad was the clincher for me and was the justification I needed to visit my local Apple store and take the plunge. In the short time I have used the iPad it has more than justified itself by being able to get up to date weather reports, check emails etc.

What I do like are some of the weather apps like Weather4D. I have a little Garmin HH in our grab bag as backup in case we ever had to evac to the tender.
