I hope this matter has not already been covered here but if so I apologise.
Since about 2013 I have used Navionics charts on an Ippad mini for navigation around the West Coast of Scotland as well as on a trip from the Solent round the West of Ireland to Scotland. The IPad was a relatively early mini with a life proof case and it worked well. The app only froze once to my knowledge.
It became apparent that Apple were no longer providing updates for that model of IPad Mini and some apps were no longer usable on it.
I decided last Winter to upgrade and bought a gen 6 IPad Mini which had capacity to use an Apple pencil having been told that this might be able to effectively switch off the touchscreen function so preventing the confusion caused by large water drops hitting the screen. As it happened, Lifeproof do not make the waterproof cover which fits this model so I bought a simpler cover which is waterproof but does not expose the screen so have not tested this aspect of the new device’s performance.
I was shocked to find that the new device running the Navionics Boating app froze quite frequently during operation which behaviour renders it unfit for navigation. It shows the track but the speed shown is zero until it returns to life. That can be seen on the saved track which appears complete.
Navionics have had my enquiry about this for several weeks but are yet to suggest what might be the problem. It might be either the app or the device.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour and if so, on what device running what version of IOS? Mine was running IOS 15.4 I believe.
