Navionics on Android Tablet

I bought a Samsung Galaxy tab (GT7510 - Android Honeycomb) ) and one of the reasons was that I wanted to run Navionics as a backup to the rest of the nav kit on board.

I bought Navionics HD for Android tablets and the Samsung was listed as ok for the app - or more specifically the GT7500 was. I found that the app would not install i.e. it downloaded fine and started to install, but then sat for ages doing nothing much. After messing around I stumbled on a statement saying it needs to install the charts to a separate SD card. My device doesn't have seperate SD slot (or any exp slot) so I emailed Navionics to see if the app could be forced to load the charts into system memory, which I have loads of. So far they have not replied. I got refund so have not lost any cash, but it's a pain not being able to use the app.

Given that Navionics have not replied, has anyone got any experience of installing the app on to a device without an expansion slot? Can it be done?
 
I have the tab10.1 wifi and bought the standard navionics for my sgs2 and it installed and works fine on the tab10.1.

Navionics are usually good about replying to emails as I have contacted them in the past but u do need to wait a day or two til someone answers.

Very surprised that it wouldn't install for you, I doubt that it is anything to do with the sdcard as the app installs on internal memory, its just the charts that go to sdcard on my phone.

I could try this at the weekend for you.
 
Mine works on an HP Touch pad running Android ICS. The Touch pad does not have an SD card slot at all.

However, I do know that the underlying operating system does create a fake sdcard using simple Linux mnt commands and that this is common practice for Android devices

If yours doesn't do this then I am sure a quick Google will show how as its standard Unix practice.

Some think Apple may be control freaks, but there could be a good reason. Apps bought through app store virtually always work and have to comply with ridgid rules so they don't hog resources or steal data. The other market is a free for all. Android is like buying a fake Rolex - disappointing IMHO.
 
Can someone answer this question.
Navionics HD on the Addroid Tablet.

Have they fixed their awfull implementation of routes.
i.e. can you edit the positions of routes and waypoints without having to delete it and re-enter it.

The older version that runs on the Android phone is very poor in this respect - IMO.

Nope - just tried this. It allows you to edit an existing route, but you can only "delete last waypoint" and not move existing ones.
You could, I suppose keep removing the last one until you get to the waypoint you want to reposition but I can see that would be a pain.
 
Thanks for the advice. I will try again to install it as it appears it should work I will report back if it works or otherwise.
 
Tried buying it again and it worked fine this time. No idea why it wouldnt work before. Thats comuters huh. App works fine and first impressions are that its very good. Certainly it looks brilliant compared to my iphone version which is obviously due to the 10.1 HD screen. Fantastic for £45.Thanks for the advice or I might not have tried installing it again.

Thanks - I wont bother downloading it then - no improvement over the phone version then.

It's a shame that Navionics claim that the Android app is "in line" with the iPad/iPhone version.
Obviously total rubbish.

I will be sticking to MM Tracker for my Asus TF101 Android tablet.
Cheaper AND IT WORKS.
 
Does anyone know if Navionics works on the Samsung Galaxy tab A wifi which does have Gps and Glonas

I want a cheapish tab to leave on the boat

I have navionics on my galaxy tab A and it works fine, as it does on my galaxy 6 phone. Personally I have no issues whatsoever and use it all the time in conjunction with my old but usable on board GPS plotter it's a great app
 
I presume from your post that the GPS part of the app works ok on the Samsung Galaxy A tab

I bought the Galaxy tab A today and also the HD version of Navionics UK and Holand and it seems to be working fine

Does the Android Navionics have tidal streams built into it..
I am looking to purchase it for my Galaxy note pro..
Its a 12 inch tablet so should be good with the bigger screen.
