SWMBO got a new tablet for xmas ( samsung galaxy note 8) and I downloaded from google play the navionics HD that I already have on my own tablet and mobile phone. The system downl;oaded OK but I have had to force it to downlaod all the uk coast by dotting round the coast on the screen and waiting for it to get the detailed charts. I never had to do this on the other 2 gadgets.

Is this a navionics change to economise on data downloads or is it a setting in the tablet which I have yet to find?

I had to do the same on my Android tablet to get all the detail for the area I sail in. I believe it's a storage issue so you don't fill your tablet memory with map areas you don't need. Just remember to click on all the areas needed whilst you still have an internet connection.

I wondered similar and speculated about the storage factor. In that case how does one dump zones no longer needed - provided that they can be reclaimed later.

Good question. I just fired up my tablet and it says something like "downloaded areas are highlighted on the chart and are then permanently stored"

It looks as if you would have to uninstall and re-install the app to start again with new highlighted areas.

I downloaded to a new nexus 7 recently. To get the maps I had to select a squared area with the variable size box indicators. This was the same procedure that I went through when I bought the HD app in oct 14.

Thanks. But I never came across anything offering a squared area - not that I remember anyway.
