Navionics Charts

I decided to update my electroinic chart from the Nauticpath one that came with the plotter (Lowrance) when I bought it three years ago, to the Navionics chart of the UK. I was very disapointed in the result, especially as it cost me £160. Part of the reason for updating was the lack of detail in some inshore areas and the fact that I had discovered some significant innacuracies. The Navionics chart however, is much slower to refresh, the contrast between sea and drying areas is poor and in many cases the detail is no better, all I get for all that money it seems is a lot of useless data about shoreside facilities. I wish now that I had replaced my paper charts and stuck with the Nauticpath for the plotter.

I too have updated with a Navionics from a Nauticpath mainly because Nauticpath could not tell me when they expected to update their cards.My Eagle plotter seemed slow at first but is OK now.By the way Navionics are giving £40 trade in on a Nauticpath chart until Dec 31 2008(sorry a bit late for you now if your dealer didn't tell you).I kept my Nauticpath card & bought a hand held black & white Lowrance plotter for £60 in which I use the Nauticpath chart as a back up.It works fine.(from www.jkmax.co.uk )
Overall I think the Navionics chart is superior.to the Nauticpath in terms of layout colours etc,but just my opinion.

And you will find that the little tidal diamonds, which should show some information.....doesnt!!!!!


Lowestoft for example has had no data for last two cards....
I reported it many times and the responce?
Well sir if its on the paper chart then we will put it on the card.

First card i had did have the onfo....two updates...Zilch

Disgraceful company and apart fromt the fact i cant use another card would have told them where to put their card a long time ago.

My experience contradicts bromley's completely.

My Furuno is running Navionics XL charts (2002). I saw JKMax advertising a Lowrance handheld bundled with a NauticPath chart of uk and near continent. I bought it.

The old Navionics gives much better shallow water details. But shows none of the tide and current info.

I don't get it??

Well, I got perfectly good tidal and current info from the Nauticpath chart and it seemed to be accurate, in contrast to a lot of reports when it first came out. Maybe charts display differently sensitive to the plotter it is used on. Bu**er about the forty quid!
