Best place (read cheapest!), place to update 2 x XL9 (Might be XL3) Charts, and to update 1 x 28P Platinum ?

Need to get these done asap, so answers on a fast postcard please !!!!!

TIA

Not sure about the cheapest, but I just sent it in to Navionics, and they ship a new chip/package out again by return.

£72.50 for a 25P.

Try Hudson Marine Electronics at Mercury Marina. Price will be the same where ever you go.Alternative is to contact Navionics in Plymouth but you may find that you can get an update from HME on the spot - they carry stock. We are a dealer but don't carry stock!!

Details here

Not sure thats absolutely true - maybe for upgrades though.

I bought a new Navionics Plarinium Plus chart last summer and had a bit of time to shop around - JG was cheaper than Navionics by about £50. - http://www.jgtech.com/

Actually, Navionice arent in my best books at the moment. As I say above, I bought an expensive Platinium Plus card, expecting it to be up to date. I was told that they'd "flown" the coast and that the aerial photos were the latest. In fact there was very little difference between the card I bought and the preloaded Platinium (not plus) charts inside the Raymarine G series kit. More disturbingly, there is a huge port development in Gijon which MUST have shown up if they'd actually flown the coast. Not a mention on the charts and the development must have protruded a mile or so into the sea - a real hazard. Thankfully we didnt encounter it in the dark but it was on our track on the way out in the morning. I complained on the Navionics stand at SIBS and all they could say was that if it isnt on the paper charts, it wont be on their electronic charts. My reply was that I understood that but that I'd been told that they had "flown" the coast - they obviously hadn't. Like I say, they aren't in my best books.

Navionics not in my good books either...

i have been telling them for 2 1/2 years that the tidal diamond off Lowestoft has no data.....there is another one but i forget where its is....they want me to fill in some stupid form on the net.....they seem unable to understand simple english and insist there is nothing wrong!

Hi Adrian,

Don't forget they have a special offer on at the moment for all of us that bought 'Platinum' at Sibs last year that we can have the '09 upgrade free of charge.

Last comms from Navionics was that it should be ready at the end of January, I havn't exchanged mine yet. Btw. I don't think the Platinum is worth the extra either, Hurricane did warn me. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Many times on the Fora questions get asked, advice given, and very often there is no follow up on the original question.

SO, I'm putting that one right - right now !

The cards were 2004 and 2005, XL3 "type", and there was a Platinum card that is 2 years old.

All the Navionics dealers I contacted, (including all the ones suggested here), including Navionics themselves - bar one, were the same cost.

Now, Navionics no longer produce the 25G card - it has to be either a 28XG or a 46XG to cover the S coast and N France.

SO - it's all bar the shouting, no cheaper upgrading - a brand new chart is about £40 more !!!!- and that's about £170.00.

The platinum upgrade was about what other posters quoted.

Not happy really, having to pay for a massive area that I have no use for.

Still, the card will be back tomorrow.

Next up - my mission for D12 "competitively priced" oil !

Thanks all.

Adrian, are your engines still under warranty.
Because my old D12's were very leaky with the Volvo oil (crap).
I switched to Shell Rimula X which you can get from Shell Direct - I've got the phone number somewhere if you want.
The result was a significant reduction in oil dripping - in fact absolutely nothing at all with the Shell.
There was a post last week on the same subject and both Nick_H and jfm have found the same thing - the Shell (or perhaps good quality oil) is far better than the Volvo crap.
So if you are out of warranty, I suggest Shell - its cheaper than the Volvo stuff as well.
