New boat has a Raymaine plotter But no added cards, Old plotter was a Standard Horizon and therefore used C map cards. There appears to be several versions of Navionics, gold, plus, platinum. But I don't understand what is what
Can anyone explain ?

You need to find what model your Raymarine plotter is, then you'll be able to find out what cartridges it will accept.

Gold is no longer supported. Your main option will be Navionics+, which is essentially the same thing, the difference being that if you bought a gold cartridge it came with the set of charts you wanted pre-loaded and was locked to that map set, so you could just stick it straight in the plotter and go.

With plus you buy a blank card (e.g. here) and then put it in the PC at home. For the A50 you will need to buy a CF card and so probably also a CF card reader for your PC. You then go online and register the card with Navionics. This allows you to choose the region for which you want charts, and download them to the card. The card is then locked to that region for life. You then put it in the chartplotter. It is not as onerous as it sounds. You can update the charts any time you like by putting it in the PC and logging back in to the Navionics website.

No experience with Platinum which is the only other navionics option for the A50. It appears to be the same cartography but with sattelite image overlay (see here). It is more expensive and may be more problematic to update.

For people who aren't happy to download their own chart, it is possible to buy pre-loaded chart cartridges.

Yeah the Navionics+ require you to download from your computer but check out the Platinum+ cards...I believe those charts come preloaded and you can download community edits and updates from the computer later.
