New Android tablet and Navionics navigation software from Santa.

Would like to share routes and waypoints with other software. Navionics writes routes to its "data.kmz" folder as "kmz" files. Sundry software can convert that to umpteen formats, so it is easy (if tiresome) to get data OUT of the Navionics software for use in other systems. However, if I make a kmz file and put it in the Navionics data folder on the tablet it is not visible to the software, and indeed if I delete a route from the data folder it remains visible in the Navionics software. Does't seem to be using the data it writes there. Anyone found a way of getting data in?

I tried and gave up. Not sure you can. Though you can load android onto a PC inside a virtual machine and do route planning on there, routes are automatically shared as long as you are logged on.

Did some reading about and I don't think it's possible...

"Some plotter companies, like Raytheon, make it impossible to import routes or waypoints. It is also currently impossible to import routes into the popular Navionics Ipad or Android app on tablets. If you want to use a tablet navigation plotter, you should get INavx."

Thanks. I think I must give up. With several other packages that don't explicitly support import I have been able to work out where they store their data and reverse engineer import files, but this looks hopeless.

Annoying.

Amulet ... did you ever make any headway with importing data into the Navionics Boating HD app for Android?

I'm getting familiar with Version 8.4.1

There still doesn't seem to be a way of doing it, per Navionics help (support).

I tried to get as far as you had with an attempt at a workaround, however, I cannot seem to be able to find 'data.kmz' or even '*.kmz' on my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smartphone or the (installed MicroSD) card. Do you recall where the data.kmz folder was nested?

Thanks, FFF

JBJag27 ... thanks for helping out ... well ... first, I have to find the exported KMZ (just a zipped KML file) data on my Android smartphone in order to have a starting point (for an attempt at seeding that location with KMZ files I introduce manually myself) ... and ... what I'm really trying to do here is import data (in whatever file format) into the smartphone (FYI, I have a significant collection of waypoints and routes in Navionics charts installed to both Fugawi Marine ENC 4.5 and Fugawi Marine 5 s/w on an XP laptop, my preferred planning platform) ... if it's possible to import Markers, Routes & Tracks to the smartphone by 'Sync'ing with a Raymarine WiFi-equipped chartplotter (which, apparently, it is), then there has to be a way to spoof a Raymarine chartplotter's WiFi interface and 'Sync' the desired data on it across to the smartphone, thus importing it.

So sorry, I completely misread the OP...

Can't find any KMZ's on my Nexus 10, it looks like track data is in NTF's in the root of the navionics directory. I tried creating a route, and while it saved it isn't obvious on the device.

Sorry, can't help...

JBJag27 ... thanks again for stepping up ... I seem to have pairs of NTF & NTS files in 'Computer\Samsung Galaxy S7 edge\Phone\Navionics\BoatingHD' (I'm not allowed to post attachments, yet, otherwise I have a screenshot available of that root directory).

I also have an NTF & NTS file in my 'Computer\Samsung Galaxy S7 edge\Phone\Navionics\Boating' root directory (I initially installed the trial version of the Boating app, then upgraded to HD app) ... as well as two more pairs of NTF & NTS files, one pair each in 'Computer\Samsung Galaxy S7 edge\Phone\Navionics\Boating\tiles\pt_working' & 'Computer\Samsung Galaxy S7 edge\Phone\Navionics\BoatingHD\tiles\pt_working'.

I will play with these NTF / NTS files to see what I can make of them ... perhaps I can seed the data I want to import into BoatingHD by creating it in those file type(s - with GPSBabel? or ?) and then placing it / them in the BoatingHD root directory of 'Computer\Samsung Galaxy S7 edge\Phone\Navionics\'.

I'll get back to this thread if anything comes of it.

stu9000 ... ghostlymoron's last post to this thread was 02JAN15 ... I doubt he's still following ... I, on the other hand, am still very interested in getting route planning data out of Fugawi Marine ENC 4.5 (loaded with Navionics Platinum+ charts on an older IBM ThinkPad T40 laptop [that has Wi-Fi 802.11b & 802.11g but no Bluetooth] running XP Pro SP3 32-bit OS) onto my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smartphone running Android 7.0 and Navionics Boating HD Version: 8.4.1 ... stu9000, when you say you do your route planning through the 'browser' on your laptop, could you be more specific about the nuts & bolts of what browser / s/w / methodology on the laptop you are using to sync to the tablet? So far, I have determined that I can export data in various file formats (GPX, KML, KMZ) from Fugawi Marine ENC 4.5 but I am unsure how I could ever access (from the laptop) the Navionics account that I am connecting to from the smartphone ... any ideas?

As far as the NTF / NTS files are concerned, I did a little searching last night and find that NTF files are:

"NTF is an image file format created by the National Imagery Transmission Format Standard (NITFS). NTF files contain images that are meant to be transmitted between departments of the United States Government. These files contain the image, text, labels, symbols and other metadata describing the image."

I also found an online NTF to KMZ file converter, however, when I loaded one of my NTF files to the converter, it came back with an error:

"Import error
No spatial data were recognized in your uploaded data. We are sorry.
Make sure you have uploaded all relevant files of the dataset - e.g. SHX and DBF files belonging to SHP file..."

So, no real progress on that front.

Thanks, FFF
